Jakarta, November 18, 2022 - Approaching its 65th Anniversary, Pertamina's energy transition initiative continues within the framework of increasingly progressive carbon emissions reduction. According to the latest Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document, Indonesia has increased its emission reduction target to 31.89% in 2030 with a target of international support of 43.20%.
In its 65th year, Pertamina continues to strengthen itself as the transition pillar, continues to be committed to reducing emission production, and consistently developing several low-carbon emission projects.
At the same time, Pertamina is also aggressively continuing renewable energy development according to the company's energy transition roadmap.
Acting Vice President of Corporate Communication, Heppy Wulansari, stated that Pertamina continues to play an active role to mitigate global emissions to anticipate climate change by setting a target of achieving net zero emissions in 2060 or sooner.
The various initiatives' progress is evident. Among them, Pertamina has implemented solar energy utilization in several operating areas such as Dumai, Cilacap, and Green Energy petrol stations with a capacity of 1-2 MW. Pertamina is also starting to make breakthroughs in increasing larger solar energy capacity to supply the Rokan Project's needs of up to 25 MW.
Pertamina, said Heppy, also continues to carry out low-carbon initiatives for the Tuban GRR megaproject and supplies energy from an LNG power plant with a capacity of 570 MW.
“Although the pandemic challenges still exist, Pertamina has recorded significant achievements through several low-emission project milestones in 2021 and 2022,” said Heppy.
Heppy also conveyed that Pertamina continues to carry out various energy transition projects as a joint effort to reduce carbon emissions.
Another milestone that has been achieved in the energy transition is the Java-1 Gas Power Plant construction with a capacity of 1,760 MW and a green energy product launch of a Generator Set (Genset) for Electric Vehicles in Formula E Jakarta (E-Prix 2022).
In space, Pertamina has produced Green Avtur J 2.4 and has been tested on the CN 235 aircraft.
“Bioavtur is a palm oil-based aircraft fuel that has been proven to provide performance equivalent to fossil-based aviation fuels but with lower carbon emissions,” said Heppy.
In the refinery sector, Pertamina continues to develop the Bio-Refinery in Cilacap, which has produced Bio Avtur from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO) with a capacity of 2,500 – 3,000 barrels per day and will be increased to 6,000 barrels per day.
Soon, the Plaju Refinery will also follow with BioAvtur production from Crude Palm Oil (CPO) with a higher capacity of up to 20,000 barrels per day.
"With the stakeholders' support, Pertamina is committed to being the energy transition's pillar in Indonesia following the world trends," said Heppy.**
