Celebrating the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, Pertamina Hosts Underwater Flag Raising and Scholarship Distribution

Jakarta, August 18, 2024 - Pertamina Group organized various Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs, including the raising of the Indonesian flag underwater, maritime ecosystem preservation, the Ciliwung River clean-up, workshops on business development strategies for prosperous families, and scholarships distribution.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that these TJSL activities are part of Pertamina’s efforts to enhance the community and environment’s well-being as a gesture of gratitude on the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence.

"As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina is committed to continuously implementing TJSL programs that positively impact society and ecosystem sustainability across the company's operational areas," Fadjar said.

Throughout August, Fadjar added that Pertamina had organized various special activities to express gratitude for the freedom enjoyed by the Indonesian people.

Among these activities, PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) celebrated the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence by raising the Indonesian flag underwater, followed by a coral reef transplantation event to preserve the ecosystem and environment around Gili Trawangan.

These events took place on Saturday (August 17) under the theme "BerSEAnergi untuk Laut," which focuses on marine ecosystems’ sustainability and coastal communities’ welfare.

PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), a subsidiary of Pertamina, also participated in the underwater flag-raising event. This activity was conducted by PGN officers and the local community in the Tabuhan Island waters, Banyuwangi. PGN also initiated a teaching program at SDN 1 Bengkak, Banyuwangi, as part of the "Penjaga Laut Junior" program to educate school students on environmental conservation, particularly marine preservation and gas utilization’s role in energy transition.

Meanwhile, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga collaborated with the Ministry of Environment & Forestry (KLHK), the Depok City Government, and members of the Ciliwung River Care Community to conduct a river clean-up event as part of the 2024 Ciliwung Festival. This event, which started on August 10, 2024, included community and student education on environmental awareness, river clean-up activities, and the raising of a 79-meter-long Indonesian flag on August 18, 2024.

"The goal of this activity is to educate school children and communities on the importance of proper waste management behavior and awareness, thereby reducing disaster risks such as floods and landslides," Fadjar added.

In Lampung, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) Ulubelu operational unit celebrated Indonesia’s Independence Day by holding a Workshop on Business Development Strategies Based on Healthy and Prosperous Family Food Processing (Kamasetra) in Ulubelu on August 15, 2024. This activity aims to create a sustainable environment, starting with nutritious food processing to improve family quality.

In Kalimantan, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) awarded scholarships to the 15 best local students through the Kalimantan Sobat Bumi Scholarship Program (BSBK). The BSBK program provides full scholarships to selected high school graduates to pursue undergraduate education at universities in Kalimantan. The scholarships were officially handed over at an inauguration ceremony in Balikpapan on Friday (16/8/2024).

"Pertamina's various TJSL programs align with the Independence Day theme, 'Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju.' Pertamina hopes to progress together in building the nation," Fadjar emphasized.
