Jakarta, February 23, 2022 – President Joko Widodo appreciates companies from upstream to downstream for taking initiatives to develop Indonesia's electric vehicle ecosystem and meet the target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.
"Therefore, supported by an ecosystem of electric vehicles from upstream to downstream, we hope that our country, Indonesia, will be able to dominate and become a producer of electric vehicles. We are targeting that in 2025, as many as 2 million electric vehicles can be used by Indonesian people. After that, then we will go to export markets," said the President at the launch of the Electric Vehicle Ecosystem Development Collaboration, held at Pertamina petrol stations, Jakarta, February 22, 2022.
This collaboration was carried out by Pertamina, Gojek, Electrum, Gesits, Gogoro, and the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) as a step to accelerate the realization of an integrated and complete electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
It is also in line with the priority issues brought by the Indonesian Government at the G20 Summit, one of which is related to a sustainable energy transition, including the development acceleration of the electric vehicle ecosystem.
“If we want to develop the NRE globally, according to the G20 program, collaboration must be done. It must be inclusive, not exclusive, because we must do this collaboration together," said Pertamina President Director Nicke Widyawati.
According to Nicke, the electric vehicle ecosystem development must be integrated into one value chain. Thus, Pertamina is committed to achieve the targets set by the Government.
Moreover, Pertamina has also developed a Green Energy Station (GES) petrol station with a rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS). Currently, Pertamina has 143 petrol stations which are Green Energy Station.
"This year we will increase to 1,000 and later the target (petrol stations) are all of the petrol stations. So, it is not only the battery that makes the environment greener, but the energy source for the generator must also be more environmentally friendly,” continued Nicke.
Furthermore, Nicke said that the first step now is to work with Gojek as a company that has a large base of motorcycles. Pertamina realizes that to serve the two-wheeled vehicle market, including online transportation drivers, convenience and speed must be fulfilled.
The pilot of the swapping station service with a battery replacement solution will currently be used by 500 Gojek fleets using electric motorcycles. However, in the future, Pertamina will continue to strive for this service can be used by the general public.
Pertamina's swapping stations are currently located at 7 (seven) GES petrol stations in South Jakarta. Namely MT Haryono petrol station, Kuningan petrol station, Kemang petrol station, Gandaria City petrol station, Fatmawati petrol station, Permata Hijau petrol station, and Pondok Indah petrol station.
"Our target will be increased soon. If the pilot results are positive, we can expand the swapping station to serve 5,000 vehicles next year. Because the target is quite aggressive, the sooner, the better. Because this is a shared commitment,” stated Nicke.**
