Jakarta, June 22, 2024 - Pertamina once again takes part in hosting the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2024 (MotoGP) and the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in 2024.
Aside from being a motorsport event, this competition has positively impacted the economy, particularly in the NTB Province. This impact includes increased tourist interest and contributions to the economy of Lombok, benefiting both local entrepreneurs and the regional economy.
The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), Erick Thohir, stated that the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia-MotoGP 2024 and the ARRC event are not just world-class motorcycle races.
According to Minister Erick, this world-class event also presents a significant opportunity for sports tourism in Indonesia, which has the potential to contribute significantly to the country’s foreign exchange earnings. In recent years, the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit has demonstrated its ability to enhance Indonesia’s Nation Branding internationally and elevate Indonesia’s reputation globally.
“We have the opportunity to capture the world’s attention while providing maximum benefits for the local community and economy, solidifying The Mandalika’s position as 'The Ultimate Lifestyle Sportstainment Destination.' I am optimistic that the ARRC and Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia-MotoGP are not just motorcycle races but also golden opportunities to promote Indonesia, especially The Mandalika, as a world-class sportainment destination,” said Erick.
Deputy President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Wiko Migantoro, mentioned that last year’s 2023 MotoGP race made history for Mandalika with a total of 103,000 visitors, correlating with a revenue increase of IDR 700 million for 50 Pertamina MSMEs participating in the international event.
“In 2024, Pertamina will continue to involve more than 50 MSMEs and is expected to contribute even more to the regional economy than the previous year,” Wiko explained.
Wiko continued, stating that Pertamina’s involvement is a realization of its commitment to bringing International MotorSport to Indonesia, with hopes of opening opportunities for business development on a global scale and supporting national economic growth in the future.
Additionally, Pertamina, through its subsidiary Pertamina Lubricants, has joined MotoGP as a partner of the VR46 Racing Team under the name Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. This World-Class Partnership step is Pertamina’s way of continuing to be a major player in the international automotive world. It proves that the VR46 Racing Team and Valentino Rossi place high trust in Pertamina Enduro’s international quality.
“The VR46 Racing Team is owned by Valentino Rossi. The partnership between VR46 and Pertamina began in 2024 and will continue until 2026 (three years), featuring Pertamina Lubricants' flagship product, Pertamina Enduro,” Wiko elaborated.
At the same event, Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero) added that in 2024, Pertamina will also participate in MotoGP with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team.
“We fully support the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2024 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit with our proud MotoGP Team, the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. We hope for the best results in Mandalika,” said Fadjar.
