Jakarta, July 23, 2023 – Pertamina Grand Prix (GP) of Indonesia will be held again this year. This prestigious global motorcycle racing event, organized by Pertamina, will be held from October 13 – 25, 2023, at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
Pertamina is the main sponsor of this international event for the second time. President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, stated that their support for this event goes beyond promoting motorsports. It also aims to stimulate the national economy and support the local micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM).
“Last year, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, MotoGP Mandalika attracted 102 thousand spectators who witnessed the world-class motorcycle racing firsthand. The event significantly boosted the West Nusa Tenggara’s economy by 3.5% in the first quarter of 2022. The impact was truly remarkable,” said Nicke during the Pertamina GP of Indonesia launching at The Space Senayan City, Jakarta, on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Nicke further explained that last year’s motorsports event contributed significantly to the national economy, with valued transactions at around IDR 5 trillion. It was obtained from the entire ecosystem that supported and positively impacted the event. From the perspective of UMKM, the same event created transactions worth IDR 800 billion.
“The event directly absorbed up to 4,600 workers. So, there was a revolving economic growth, and such significant transactions and job absorption took place,” Nicke explained.
Therefore, Nicke hopes that the public’s enthusiasm for the second edition of Pertamina GP of Indonesia will be even greater, resulting in a more substantial impact on the economy, job creation, and UMKM.
Pertamina, with the local governments and organizers, continues to improve the infrastructure and facilities at the event location to enhance the spectators' comfort attending the international motorcycle races. This effort aims not only to boost the national economy but also to elevate the reputation of Pertamina and Indonesia on the world stage.
"To achieve this, I invite all communities through motorcycle enthusiasts and the media to join us in building awareness so that we are ready to welcome the guests who will watch the MotoGP in Mandalika, ensuring maximum comfort for all spectators," Nicke concluded.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, added that Pertamina GP of Indonesia is one of Pertamina's efforts to participate in various national and international events. "The goal is for us to be hosts in our own country," Riva said.
During this occasion, Riva invited all automotive enthusiasts to participate and witness the live races involving world-class racers.
On this occasion, Pertamina also presented The Ultimate Box, featuring the Pit Garage concept from MotoGP racers, which includes a MotoGP racing simulator imported directly from Italy. To promote the Pertamina GP of Indonesia 2023 event, The Ultimate Box will conduct roadshows in several cities throughout the country, including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Medan, Batam, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, Bali, and Lombok.
