Achieving Blue Sky: Pertamina Plaju Refinery Reduces Vehicle Emissions

Plaju, August 29, 2024 - In a committed effort to support the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target, the Pertamina Plaju Refinery regularly conducts emissions tests on company vehicles.

Out of 167 diesel-powered vehicles, all passed the emissions test with a 100% success rate, along with 33 gasoline-powered vehicles that passed a 100% rate. Thus, a total of 200 vehicles were tested.

The emissions tests are part of Pertamina's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing global warming.

"We aim to support the NZE target, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and prevent global warming," said the Section Head of Environment - HSSE of Plaju Refinery, Farida Aprilianingrum.

This Vehicle Emissions Testing also follows the Langit Biru Program, an air pollution control initiative launched by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to control and prevent air pollution while fostering environmentally conscious behavior.

Through this vehicle emissions testing, Pertamina Plaju Refinery reaffirms its direct contribution to reducing the impact of exhaust emissions on environmental health without compromising vehicle performance.

Plaju Refinery fully supports this initiative by ensuring all company operational vehicles participate in the emissions tests. Additionally, Plaju Refinery is actively raising awareness about this program among drivers and the surrounding community to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining vehicles that meet emission standards.

Moreover, this activity is part of Plaju Refinery's ongoing program to support government policies to create a cleaner and healthier environment. As a company operating in the energy sector, Plaju Refinery recognizes the importance of contributing to reducing the environmental impact of its operations, one of which is through initiatives to manage vehicle exhaust emissions.

Head of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control of the Palembang City Environmental Agency, Henny Kurniawati, appreciated the emissions testing collaboration with Pertamina Plaju Refinery. She noted that this is an annual activity.

"This year, we decided to come directly to conduct outreach. Maybe at Pertamina, this is a routine effort to protect the environment. We are grateful that Pertamina has carried out this activity, and it is also part of our routine efforts to control air pollution. Thank you for the cooperation," Henny said.

It is hoped that this activity will build collective awareness of the importance of regularly maintaining vehicles to meet the emission standards set by the government.

This emissions testing is part of a joint effort to keep the air in Palembang clean while representing Pertamina Plaju Refinery's commitment to supporting sustainable development and corporate social responsibility towards the environment. Let us work together to maintain the quality of the air we breathe for a greener and healthier future.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina, as an SOE, remains at the forefront in supporting carbon emission reduction targets and NZE by 2060 or sooner.

"Pertamina's operations across all business lines have been carried out more environmentally friendly and in a sustainable manner to implement ESG aspects that meet global standards," Fadjar said.

Pertamina Plaju Refinery's efforts to measure and reduce vehicle emissions align with Goal 9 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. Furthermore, this step supports the target of upgrading infrastructure and retrofitting industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes. It also aligns with ESG principles, particularly in the Environmental aspect.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
