Jakarta, August 13, 2024 - As the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia approaches on August 17, at the new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), a subsidiary of Pertamina's Gas Sub-holding, confirms that natural gas has begun flowing and is ready for use. PGN supplies natural gas to IKN using combined services, including beyond-pipeline modes such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
At this stage, CNG is transported using cylinder tanks, known as Gaslink Cylinders. Two types of Gaslink Cylinders are provided at IKN: one with a capacity of 24 m³ per tank and a smaller version with 4 m³ per tank, known as the mini Gaslink Cylinder.
As of Sunday, August 11, 2024, the Gaslink Cylinders have been installed in 105 ministerial official residences (RTJM), and gas has gradually started flowing. A total of 12 Gaslink Cylinders have been installed across eight lots at RTJM. Besides RTJM, Gaslink Cylinders have also been installed at the Presidential Palace, the Garuda Palace, the Presidential Secretariat Office, ASN 4 Towers B and C, ASN 1 Towers B and C, BIN apartments, POLRI apartments, the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) Tower, Beranda Nusantara, and Hotel Nusantara (a privately owned commercial customer). In total, 34 Gaslink Cylinders have been installed and are ready to fulfill the natural gas needs at IKN.
To support the natural gas distribution at IKN, PGN has also constructed a 61.1 km-long natural gas pipeline in the Core Central Government Area (KIPP) Sub WP 1A. The current gas supply is sourced from Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, and is transported via an intermodal transportation system.
The provision of natural gas at IKN reflects PGN’s commitment as a Pertamina-assigned executor designated by the government to provide natural gas infrastructure. It demonstrates PGN’s support for the government’s plan to build a green industrial area at IKN. With lower emissions compared to other fossil fuels, natural gas can be a primary choice for clean energy.
"PGN is committed to fulfilling the government’s mandate to provide clean energy at IKN. We are making every effort to ensure that the natural gas services operate safely to support the infrastructure readiness for the Independence Day ceremony at IKN," said the Corporate Secretary of PGN, Fajriyah Usman (12/8/2024).
Fajriyah added that PGN continues to strive for the natural gas infrastructure development at IKN to proceed as planned. PGN is also preparing the gas network at IKN to meet the needs of residential customers, with a projection of 9,996 household connections (SR).
PGN consistently collaborates with the IKN Authority and other stakeholders to ensure that the natural gas provision at IKN yields positive benefits and follows Indonesia’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Equally important, natural gas consumers will receive practical, reliable, safe, and environmentally friendly energy services.
"During the energy transition period, natural gas is trusted as a cleaner and more environmentally friendly energy source, as the CO2 emissions from using natural gas are lower compared to other fossil fuels. Additionally, natural gas is domestically sourced, saving the country foreign exchange for energy imports," Fajriyah concluded.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that the Pertamina Group is committed to supporting clean and sustainable energy utilization at IKN. "Pertamina is committed to developing natural gas as a reliable transition energy that will strengthen national energy security and independence, as demonstrated by PGN in this gas distribution effort," said Fadjar.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
