August 30, 2022 - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, accompanied by President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, reviewed Pertamina's Green Energy Station (GES) readiness in Bali. In his review, Arifin supports Pertamina's readiness and sees it as the first step towards New and Renewable Energy (NRE) transition.
Arifin and Nicke inspected the 5180130 petrol station, Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday (30/8/2022). During his visit, Arifin immediately received an explanation about Pertamina's GES from the Director of Planning and Business Development of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Harsono Budi Santoso. Furthermore, Arifin and his entourage reviewed the Charging Station (SPKLU) and Battery Swapping Station (SPBKLU) to support electric vehicles, currently widely used.
"This will lead to New Renewable Energy because in the upstream, we are still using fossil (energy) which used to be a long program. But this will gradually shift to clean energy, new renewable energy. This is the motorized vehicles evolution, previously using ICE turned into electricity, clean environment, and economical," said Arifin.
He added that it was time for Indonesia to start shifting from fossil energy to new, renewable energy that was environmentally friendly. Moreover, Pertamina has prepared GES to support the energy transition policy.
"Pertamina must anticipate long-term business challenges, seeing that our existing sources of oil and gas are decreasing. What alternative should be used? Well, there is an answer to replace oil with electricity. This will be gradual," said Arifin.
Meanwhile, Nicke said that until now, Pertamina has had 238 GES installed with solar panels, 6 Charging Stations units for charging electric cars, and 14 Battery Swapping Stations units for exchanging electric motorcycle batteries. Pertamina also targets that later all outlets, both downstream and upstream, will be upgraded from new and renewable energy.
"For the source, we have an energy mix target. For EV (electric vehicle) ecosystem, Pertamina will start to enter downstream with two wheels. We understand that the two-wheeled market is rather difficult to charge at home, so the concept is we sell swap batteries to make it easier for motorcycles," said Nicke.
"For the upstream side, Pertamina cooperates with SOEs Inalum and PLN in building the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) to invest in the battery manufacture development from upstream to downstream," added Nicke.
Meanwhile, the Director of Business Planning and Development of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Harsono Budi Santoso, said that the downstream infrastructure provision expansion, especially in Bali, was part of Pertamina's commitment to developing an electric vehicle ecosystem. It includes Charging Stations (SPKLU) and Battery Swapping Stations (SPBKLU) to support electric vehicles, which utilization is currently widespread.
“Bali is famous for its concern for the environment, how life must be balanced. In the past, Pertamina's Langit Biru Program aims to reduce emissions and was also present for the first time in Bali. We take the high level of concern and the increasing prevalence of electric vehicles in Bali as an opportunity to contribute developing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Bali,” explained Harsono Budi.
For Bali, Harsono Budi said that in 2022 Pertamina plans to develop 58 GES, 6 of which will be equipped with 6 Battery Swapping Station units. In addition, Pertamina Patra Niaga has also developed a Charging Station unit for charging electric buses.
“This expansion supports the Indonesian Government's commitment to accelerating electrification in the transportation sector and implementing Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) aspects regarding the cleaner energy provision. Furthermore, the electric vehicle ecosystem development is also a support for the upcoming G20 agenda, where most of the vehicles used are environmentally friendly electric vehicles," he continued.
Bali will be the venue for the G20 Summit in November 2022, where leaders of the world's major countries who are members of the G20 will be present. Several preparations to support these grand event activities were carried out by Pertamina, one of which was by providing GES for the vehicles used for the G20 activities, most of which use environmentally friendly electric vehicles.**
