September 5, 2024 – Collaboration is the key to achieving sustainability, addressing climate change, and implementing the energy transition. Collaboration is not just an option but a necessity that must be carried out by countries.
President Joko Widodo emphasized that addressing climate change requires a collaborative and humane approach, a collaboration between developed and developing countries.
"We must prioritize humanity so that the process does not sacrifice the interests of the underprivileged because the green economy is not only about environmental protection but also about sustainable welfare for the people," said President Joko Widodo during the opening of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024 (IISF) on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the JCC Senayan, Jakarta.
President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, in her presentation, explained that Pertamina has implemented energy transition strategies to support national economic growth and the government’s net zero emission (NZE) target in Indonesia.
"Pertamina's energy transition can support national economic growth while strengthening Indonesia's ability to address the energy trilemma," Nicke stated during her speech as one of the speakers in the Advancing Energy Transition in Emerging Economies panel discussion at the IISF event.
In addition to supporting economic growth, Nicke continued, Pertamina's energy transition could boost Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and strengthen the capital index.
Nicke added that Pertamina has allocated approximately 15% of its total Capex to support energy transition and the development of a low-carbon business portfolio. This figure is significantly higher than the average of global energy companies.
"Pertamina remains committed to supporting the Indonesian government's NZE target by 2060 or even sooner," Nicke emphasized.
Nicke further mentioned that Pertamina is maintaining national energy security as a top priority in supporting the economic growth in Indonesia. Pertamina is implementing a dual growth strategy, which involves maintaining and enhancing its existing businesses to ensure national energy security while developing low-carbon.
Pertamina is actively expanding gas infrastructure as a backbone for energy sources to support energy transition. Pertamina also continues developing geothermal energy, which can be Indonesia's best eco-friendly energy option.
"Pertamina has developed biofuels, implemented carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology, and introduced Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), which have proven to reduce emissions," Nicke added.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
