Jakarta, June 10, 2024 – Align with national energy security, PT Pertamina (Persero) and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) have signed a cooperation agreement for sustainable energy policy development. The signing took place on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Bappenas Building in Jakarta.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, and President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati.
The Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, stated that this collaboration strengthens the commitment of the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of PPN/Bappenas and Pertamina to addressing the global climate crisis.
He emphasized that synergy is essential and can accelerate energy transition utilization while ensuring national energy security. This effort is aimed at achieving the target of Indonesia Emas 2045.
"We have collaboration with best practices implemented by Pertamina. We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net zero emissions while fulfilling energy demands, which are increasing 4-5 times with environmentally friendly energy. At the same time, we are promoting the complex petrochemical industry in Indonesia. Therefore, we hope this cooperation will continue until we reach Indonesia Emas 2045," said Suharso Monoarfa, Head of Bappenas.
Committed to sustainability, the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, stated that this strategic cooperation demonstrates Pertamina's seriousness in achieving national energy independence, including low-carbon energy utilization following government measures.
"Pertamina, as a state-owned enterprise, must align its steps with the government, considering its primary role in maintaining energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability. We will continue to push for carbon emission reduction programs," emphasized Nicke.
The synergy between Bappenas and Pertamina includes joint studies and an energy policy roadmap development focusing on national energy security, oil and gas downstream, and energy transition utilization. This partnership also emphasizes ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation, as well as policy dissemination and information exchange related to the energy sector to support Indonesia's transformation.
In pursuit of efficiency and sustainable innovation, the cooperation also encompasses technology utilization and human resources (HR) quality improvement in the energy sector.
"There are several SDG-related goals we must achieve. The signed MoU aims to develop superior HR capable of carrying out more sustainable future business operations and producing a green economy. Energy transition for Indonesia is not just about reducing carbon emissions but also about increasing GDP and absorbing as much labor as possible," explained Nicke.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that the collaboration between Bappenas and Pertamina would be part of the utilization of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub in the new capital city, Nusantara, whose construction began last week with the groundbreaking ceremony by President Joko Widodo.
He revealed that the Nusantara Sustainability Hub would become an innovation center supporting energy resources' sustainable utilization. "The cooperation between Pertamina and Bappenas is expected to strengthen the Nusantara Sustainability Hub, making it a catalyst for ESG and SDGs principles," said Fadjar.
The Nusantara Sustainability Hub is supported by Pertamina Sustainability Experts, consisting of experts from Pertamina and universities, including Pertamina University, in sustainability.
As a pioneer of energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is realized through the implementation of integrated ESG and SDGs activities within the Pertamina Sustainability Academy.**
