Bandung, June 27, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero) and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) are collaborating to strengthen the hospitality industry supply chain in West Java. This initiative began with a pre-business meeting between Pertamina and Kemenparekraf in Bandung on Thursday, June 23, 2023.
The activity aims to accelerate and promote an increase in local product components, revenue, supply, and demand, as well as workforce absorption in strengthening the hospitalityand tourism industry's supply chain, particularly in West Java, from the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) sector. This activity represents Pertamina's support to the government in developing the tourism industry in Indonesia.
"Through this business meeting, Pertamina, as an SOE, is ready to support MSMEs in upgrading and becoming more professional, particularly in supporting the hotel, restaurant, and café (horeca) industry in West Java," explained Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina.
According to Fadjar, Pertamina with Kemenparekraf will play an active role by providing an understanding of policies, programs, and development strategies in the tourism and MSME sectors, specifically in the regions of West Java, including available investment opportunities.
"Pertamina believes that this collaboration can create a conducive environment for the tourism sector growth. Moreover, it will provide significant economic benefits to the region, such as job creation and improved the community’s well being," Fadjar concluded.
During the Business Meeting, Syaifullah, the Director of Industry Management at Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf, believes collaboration among industry players will create mutually beneficial and sustainable synergies. It follows the direction set by President Joko Widodo, emphasizing the importance of driving economic growth by fostering partnerships between tourism and small industries.
"It is our task to maximize the potential held by small business owners, particularly MSMEs, by facilitating cooperation between the MSME and tourism sectors as the economic development’s main focus. Additionally, through the national movement “Bangga Buatan Indonesia”, President Joko Widodo invites us to purchase MSME products, which is expected to enhance competitiveness," Syaifullah said.
Meanwhile, Benny Bachtiar, Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of West Java Province, stated that in West Java, the economic locomotive is the tourism sector, which includes 17 creative industry sub-sectors. This industry could be a significant economic force in Indonesia, considering the country's exceptional natural and human resources.
"With a substantial contribution from MSMEs, it is expected to create employment opportunities and empower communities in their respective regions so that productive-age individuals no longer need to travel far to find work but can seek employment in their villages by utilizing technology," he said.
Bandung, West Java, is one of the tourism and creative economy destinations that will receive support from Pertamina for its development. Besides Bandung, Pertaminawill also participate in other regions, including Batam, Surabaya, and East Kalimantan.
