Jakarta, December 30, 2022 - Due to the commitment to realize sustainability and suitability for society and the future (A Future-Fit Society) within the Pertamina Group, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati won an award as Main Green Leadership from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).
Under Nicke Widyawati's leadership, Pertamina has prepared a roadmap for the energy transition and implemented sustainable business practices through the Sustainability Policy, Strategy & Initiatives implemented throughout the Pertamina Group. The goal is to make Pertamina an environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and good corporate governance company.
Nicke Widyawati also continues to oversee Pertamina's sustainability strategy, which is translated into 10 Sustainability Focus. To achieve these focuses, she developed 16 initiatives that follow the Future-Fit Society framework. It includes a net zero roadmap, decarbonization, systemize biodiversity program, Delivering NRE Capacity Commitment (RJPP), Reducing Environmental Footprint, Enhancement of Health & Safety Aspect, Process Safety Management, Promoting Human Rights, Sustainability Focused Research & Innovation, Improve Accessibility to Energy for the Community, Cyber Security Structure and Culture, Enhanced GCG Management System, ESG Operating Model, Evaluate & Implement ESG Financing, ESG Communication & Engagement, and Blue Carbon Initiatives.
This vision and work led Nicke Widyawati to win the Main Green Leadership award. She was considered successful in implementing 7 (seven) important matters following the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number SK.1299/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/12/2022, concerning the Results of the Assessment of Company Performance Ratings in Environmental Management for 2021-2022.
As concrete sustainability practices form, especially in environmental management, Pertamina continues to develop its environmental management programs through reducing environmental footprint programs and increasing the Net Positive Impact related to biodiversity.
Pertamina also has new and renewable energy development program that directly involves the community with the Community Engagement program through the Desa Energi Berdikari Pertamina, Hutan Pertamina, Sampah Kita, and the Kampung Iklim program in 2022.
Through all these initiatives, Pertamina's sustainability performance achievement domestically is winning 20 proper gold in 2022. Meanwhile, internationally, Pertamina receives 22.1 in the ESG Score from Sustainalytics, which places Pertamina in the Medium Risk category and is ranked 2nd globally in the Oil & Gas Sub Industry of Sustainalytics.
The Main Green Leadership Award was handed over by Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin, accompanied by Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar at the Vice Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, Thursday (29/12).
Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin, appreciated the company and company leaders who have encouraged every industrial business activity to comply with environmental regulations and carry out sustainable business practices by implementing a green economy.
According to him, the CEOs who won the Main Green Leadership award are an inspiration and motivation for other companies to do the same thing to glorify Indonesia as a nation that is respected by the world and succeeds in managing a sustainable environment.
The President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, welcomed the award. For her, PROPER is very important, because, as an energy company, the biggest challenge is how Pertamina can transform the fossil energy business into new and renewable energy or sustainable energy.
“This is very important for the sustainability of our business in the future. PROPER is the foundation that provides guidance in developing sustainability programs and realizing the Future Fit Society. Pertamina's participation in PROPER and our success in obtaining Blue, Green, and Gold PROPER ratings is proof that our sustainable business is to answer the Future Energy Challenge," said Nicke.
Nicke expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the PROPER Advisory Council for their direction and guidance to Pertamina in managing and protecting the environment and in developing programs that exceed other compliances, including biodiversity management and community development.

7 (seven) important matters following the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number SK.1299/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/12/2022, concerning the Results of the Evaluation of Company Performance Ratings in Environmental Management for 2021-2022. First, company leaders must eliminate dependence on non-renewable energy and ensure that energy use comes from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, ocean, hydropower, geothermal resources, or biomass. Second, it can protect water resources by reducing water consumption and implementing 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) efforts in the production process or services, as well as maintaining and improving the quality of water or sea where the wastewater is disposed.
Third, a leader must ensure that companies can maintain the quality of natural resources owned or managed, including the quality of the environment or the people affected by their production activities or services. Fourth, the company has efforts to eliminate the waste generated from its production and service process activities, including ensuring all by-products can be reused and ensuring 3R+Repurpose all its waste.
In addition, the fifth success made by the Main Green Leadership is ensuring the environment is free from pollution, companies can eliminate all harmful emissions, both conventional and greenhouse gas emissions originating from production process activities or services, including those from energy consumption. Sixth, the company fulfills the needs of everyone's life. Everyone has the capacity and opportunity to fulfill their lives. Workers receive fair treatment, no discrimination, and solutions to problems are actively sought and managed fairly and transparently.
The last or seventh success is that the physical health of infrastructure must be able to maintain the health of ecosystems and communities. Operational activities do not violate ecosystem or community boundaries. The physical form of the infrastructure must protect the health of ecosystems and communities. Human activities do not encroach on nature, and communities continue to work to regenerate damaged ecosystems and restore people's rights to land, natural resources, and areas of cultural significance.
