Balongan, April 4, 2023 - Pertamina continues to strengthen the work culture based on safety to prevent incidents from recurring. Pertamina makes the incident at the Balongan Refinery a lesson learnt to strengthen the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, & Environment) culture within the company.
"Pertamina ensures direct action has been taken for safety and identification throughout 2022, which became hazardous and high risk. Pertamina is making additional investments for the protection system after the incident two years ago. Thus, the incident will not be repeated," said the Main Deputy Commissioner of Pertamina, Pahala Mansury, while conducting a Ramadan Safari to the Balongan Refinery, Indramayu, West Java, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
Pahala reiterated that a thorough investigation had been done as a mitigation measure. Besides that, several important improvements have been made to the system and SOP deficiencies.
"If there is negligence for follow-up. If there is negligence, management will not hesitate to terminate it," Pahala said.
According to Pahala, safety-based work culture development is a form of corporate accountability. Thus, it must be the concern of all parties.
Pertamina has improved the monitoring system so that important points can be monitored directly.
"Currently, the Pertamina Command Center could carry out surveillance through hundreds of additional CCTV cameras, better detectors such as gas and other leaks, as well as installing a lightning protection system," Pahala said.
Pahala also advised that there should be better asset integrity. It is ensured that all oil and gas assets are properly maintained.
During a working visit to the Balongan Refinery, Pahala also wanted to ensure operational readiness for the Ramadan and Idul Fitri Task Force (RAFI) to run well.**
