EV Funday, Pertamina Supports the Electric Vehicle Ecosystem

Jakarta, December 19, 2022 - The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), is holding an Electric Vehicle (EV) Funday activity by conducting a convoy of electric vehicles traveling 14.8 Km, starting from Silang Barat Daya Monas and ending at Plaza Timur Gelora Bung Karno Senayan, on Sunday, December 18, 2022.

This activity is a form of support and socialization by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to the Ministry of Transportation with the issuing Minister of Transportation's Regulation Number 65 of 2020 concerning the Conversion of Fuel Motorcycles into Battery-Based Electric Motorcycles.

Moreover, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also implements Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2020 concerning the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle Program (KBLBB) for Road Transportation Acceleration and Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicles Utilization as Service Vehicles for Operations and/or Individual Vehicles Service of Central Government Agencies and Regional Governments.

"We are pushing for the KBLBB Program as part of the energy transition to realize cleaner, more efficient energy utilization, reduce fuel imports, save foreign exchange, and be able to save on fuel subsidies," said Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif.

On this occasion, Arifin said that the target for electric vehicles in the Grand National Energy Strategy document and the Net Zero Emission Draft is around 2 million four-wheeled electric vehicles and 13 million two-wheeled electric vehicles by 2030.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has set a fuel-to-electric motor conversion of 6 million by 2030 with the benefit of reducing fuel consumption by up to 13.4 million barrels/year. Therefore, this can save Pertalite compensation of IDR 9.48 trillion/year, reducing CO2 emissions of 4.0 million tons of CO2 and increasing electricity consumption of 2.6 TWh/year, as well as a multiplier effect on the economy of around IDR 84 trillion," said Arifin.

CEO of Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (PNRE) Subholding, Dannif Danusaputro, said that to support the government's program in building an electric vehicle ecosystem, following the assignment, Pertamina will provide the facilities or infrastructure first.

"This is done. Therefore, people who already use electric vehicles are more confident because the charging station and battery swapping station are already available, so there are no worries for people to switch to electric vehicles," explained Dannif.

He also said that Pertamina continues to develop the electric vehicle ecosystem.

"Pertamina is very supportive of the electric motor conversion program. It follows Pertamina’s vision which is currently developing the battery business to support the EV ecosystem optimization. Therefore, electric motors and converted motors can swap or exchange batteries. In the future, electric and converted motors must use sold with standardized batteries to enable swapping," Dannif added.**
