Nusa Dua, 3 September 2024 – Countries in Africa and Indonesia possess diverse potential mineral resources. Therefore, the opportunity for concrete collaboration between both parties is wide open.
It was conveyed by the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, during a discussion session titled "Energy Effective Implementation of Energy Diversification" on the second day of the Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday, 3 September 2024.
Embracing the "Bandung Spirit," Indonesia, through Pertamina, will collaborate and support Africa in strengthening both parties' positions as "Emerging Markets," particularly in the energy sector.
“The potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Africa in the energy sector is vast. By leveraging each other's strengths and resources, Indonesia and Africa are expected to build a robust energy partnership framework to fulfill the growing energy needs of both parties and contribute to global sustainability goals,” Nicke said.
Nicke further explained that Pertamina has been expanding into Africa since 2013, eleven years ago. In the upstream oil and gas business, Pertamina has established a track record in several African countries, including Algeria, Gabon, Nigeria, Angola, Namibia, and Tanzania.
For shipping, Pertamina now operates three leading ports in Algeria, Nigeria, and Angola, covering routes through Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Djibouti, and Gibraltar.
"Currently, Pertamina is pursuing business expansion in Kenya to develop a geothermal block. We are developing from upstream to downstream, drilling to geothermal power generation. Additionally, in South Africa, Pertamina, with its expertise, is offering renewable energy solutions through gas-to-power projects. Essentially, Pertamina is always open to collaboration through an integrated ecosystem from upstream to downstream," Nicke concluded.
In the ongoing collaboration, Nicke also expressed her appreciation for the strong support from the Indonesian and African governments. Moreover, she noted that Pertamina continuously seeks new potential blocks in Africa.
“Africa and Indonesia have abundant mineral resources, so there are still many opportunities for collaboration to boost the economies of both nations while creating jobs,” Nicke concluded.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
