Indonesia – Africa Forum 2024: Pertamina's Commitment to Strengthening Energy Resilience

Nusa Dua, Bali, September 2, 2024 – Indonesia is hosting the "Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) 2024," held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from September 1-3, 2024. The event is attended by representatives from 54 countries and 800 participants from across the African continent, along with other international guests, serving as an opportunity for Pertamina to meet with business partners.

Opened by President Joko Widodo, the IAF is themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063.” The forum also features a High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP).

President Jokowi warmly welcomed the participants and expressed his appreciation for their commitment to attending this important forum amidst various global challenges.

"We are all here to create positive change in a world full of challenges, ranging from economic slowdowns, unemployment, and persistent inflation to ongoing geopolitical tensions that have caused many casualties and disrupted global supply chains," said President Jokowi, according to the press release from the Presidential Secretariat's Press, Media, and Information Bureau.

During the IAF, business meetings with various stakeholders will take place, including leaders’ sessions, panel discussions, project showcases, exhibitions, business matchmaking, and other business events.

This event serves as a primary platform for Indonesia and African countries to strengthen bilateral relations, formulate strategic actions, and collaborate in addressing increasingly complex global challenges.

The President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, added that Pertamina actively supports and contributes to this event. IAF 2024 also reinforces Pertamina's commitment to global expansion, particularly in Africa.

"Previously, Pertamina began collaborating with several African countries, and today, we are reinforcing that commitment. As a state-owned energy company, we see significant potential for energy development in Africa, such as gas and geothermal energy. This aligns with the future goal of energy transition towards cleaner and greener energy," said Nicke.

Nicke also appreciated the support from the government, as the G-to-G (Government to Government) cooperation between Indonesia and African countries, in line with the Bandung Spirit, encourages Pertamina’s efforts to go global and collaborate with international business partners.

One of Pertamina's efforts in Africa includes operations in the upstream and gas sectors in several African countries since 2013, such as Algeria, Gabon, Nigeria, Namibia, and Tanzania. This expansion has contributed to Pertamina’s oil and gas production from international blocks.

The Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina's cooperation with international partners also aims to strengthen its low-carbon business. Through this synergy, it is hoped that technology exchange will lead to the production of low-carbon energy and energy transition solutions.

"In addition to ensuring energy resilience, we hope that Pertamina's business expansion will support Indonesia's government's target of achieving Net Zero Emissions through collaborations between Pertamina and its business partners," Fadjar explained.

At the IAF event, Pertamina also showcases its products and services from several sub-holdings and subsidiaries, creating broader opportunities for cooperation with African countries.
