Leading factories in the Jababeka-Cikarang Industrial Estate join the Net Zero Program initiated by the World Economic Forum and Accenture and supported by Accenture and EPRI
Bali, November 11, 2022 - Leading industrial factories in the Jababeka Industrial Estate in Cikarang-Indonesia, consisting of Pertamina, Hitachi, Unilever, and L'Oréal, collaborate to create a net zero industrial cluster and become Southeast Asia's first net zero industrial clusters. This is Energy, Sustainability & Climate Task Force (TF ESC) B20 concrete output by encouraging collaboration for the first net zero industry cluster in Southeast Asia.
The Jababeka factory group signed a joint statement and announced its plans to become the first net zero industrial cluster in the Jababeka Industrial Estate at the Indonesia Net Zero Summit 2022, B20 Indonesia 2022 side event. This cluster will be supported by the World Economic Forum and Accenture as part of the "Transitioning Industrial Clusters towards Net Zero" initiative collaborating with Accenture and EPRI.
After the signing, the Jababeka factory group plans to develop a decarbonization solution in the Jababeka Industrial Estate. The target is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 to support Indonesia's net zero targets by 2060.
Other key goals include increasing operational efficiency and circularity, as well as transitioning from fossil energy to electricity powered by solar and other renewable sources. These goals will form part of the B20 energy transition effort that underpins Indonesia's G20 presidency in 2022.
Agung Wicaksono, Managing Director of Jababeka Infrastruktur, said, "Jababeka's net zero industry cluster will be built on the foundation we have laid as an industrial estate for more than 30 years with companies from 30 countries to transform in the future, using technology and digital in their operations. This initiative will help companies in Southeast Asia's largest industrial area to take a leading role in addressing the growing consumer demand for sustainable products and responsible business practices."
Nicke Widyawati, President Director and CEO of Pertamina and Chair of the B20 Energy, Sustainability and Climate Change, stated, "Increasing renewable energy solutions utilization is important to reduce carbon emissions from industrial activities. But achieving decarbonization requires collaboration between many stakeholders. Therefore, we are looking for additional companies in Jababeka to join this new group. Pertamina, as the only Indonesian company in the Fortune Global 500, is eager to drive this decarbonization journey as an energy company."
Alper Kulak, Director of Supply Chain of Unilever Indonesia, conveyed, "Sustainability must be an important part of any business strategy to provide superior performance and sustainable and responsible growth. Unilever hopes to partner with other parties in this manufacturing business ecosystem, in this endeavor."
Puneet Verma, Director of Factory Operations of L'Oréal Indonesia, said, "Considering our position as a beauty (industry market share) leader and representation of a global brand, L'Oréal is committed to taking on greater responsibility. Through L'Oréal For the Future, we are committed to achieving 100 percent carbon neutrality in all of our locations by 2025 globally.
Moreover, I would like to highlight further that we are witnessing the acceleration of our internal transformation in contributing to tackling climate change in Indonesia. By 2021, all of our locations will use 100 percent primary renewable energy, and by 2023, our factory in the Jababeka Industrial Estate will achieve 100 percent net zero emission. Together, we want to show that companies can be part of the solution to the world challenges.”
Yasuhiro Yamamoto, President Director of Hitachi Astemo Bekasi Manufacturing, stated, "With the launch of our 1248kWp rooftop solar PV installation at our factory last October, which is the largest to date in a single building within the Jababeka Industrial Estate, Hitachi Astemo seeks to accelerate the transition to net zero in industry clusters."**
