June 14, 2023 - In its efforts to fulfill national energy security, Pertamina is not only seeking energy sources domestically but also actively exploring opportunities in international oil fields. One of these opportunities is the Menzel Ledjmet Nord (MLN) Oil Field in Algeria, which has been fully operated by Pertamina since May 2014.
"This is Pertamina's effort to fulfill national energy security, not only domestically but also by seeking opportunities overseas," said President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, during her visit to MLN on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.
During her meeting with the workforce, Nicke expressed her appreciation to all the employees, acknowledging that working far from home is not easy, especially in a location like MLN, situated amid the Sahara Desert, which poses numerous challenges.
"I am proud of all of you who have worked hard to fulfill the country's mandate in achieving national energy security. It is not an easy task, and there are many challenges," said Nicke.
Nicke also commended MLN's performance, as it has maintained zero fatalities and zero lost-time incidents since its operation, with more than 23 million man-hours.
"This oil field is undoubtedly challenging, which is why I encourage continuous innovation through initiatives to enhance production, with the aim of increasing investment and boosting MLN's performance," Nicke stated.
Menzel Ledjmet Nord (MLN) Oil Field is located in the Sahara Desert, approximately 1000 kilometers southeast of Algiers, the capital of Algeria.
With an oil capacity of 35,000 barrels per day (BOPD), MLN's average oil production from January to May 2023 reached 14,875 BOPD. Furthermore, in its pursuit to fulfill renewable energy demand, MLN has installed 58 solar panels, generating 1,141 kWh per year and reducing emissions by 7,507 tons of CO2 equivalents annually.
Operated by Pertamina Algeria EP (PAEP), a subsidiary of PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP), MLN Oil Field has been under full operation since 2014, with a total participating interest of 65%.
PIEP is part of Pertamina's Upstream Subholding responsible for managing international upstream operations. PIEP plays a key role in collaborating with foreign partners and operates in four continents and twelve countries to support Pertamina's position as a world-class energy company.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
