Jakarta, 4 November 2022 – Pertamina took part in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum and Conference (ADIPEC) from 31 October to 3 November 2022 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, United Arab Emirates.
ADIPEC is an exhibition where energy ecosystems such as policymakers, energy decision-makers, innovators, and energy companies meet. There were 2,200 companies, 54 national oil and gas companies (National Oil Company/NOC), and 28 countries participating to explore the latest market trends, exchange information and promotions, as well as establish collaboration to run a global business chain to increase the industry value.
SVP of Research Technology and Innovation of Pertamina, Oki Muraza, was one of the panelists with other speakers, such as Adif Zulkifli, Executive Vice President & CEO of Upstream Petronas, Montri Rawanchaikul CEO of PTTE, and Dr. Dong Sub Kim President & CEO of KNOC moderated by Rebecca McLaughlin TV Anchor & MD RME Media.
Oki explained how Pertamina made efforts to transition energy and reduce emissions to realize Indonesia's 2060 Net Zero Emission (NZE) target. One of them is geothermal energy, considering Indonesia is located in the ring of fire.
“30 years before the Paris agreement, we started our geothermal exploration, considering that Indonesia has the largest geothermal potential. When talking about energy transition, the strategy is there are two best answers, namely geothermal energy and hydropower,” he said.
Technology is important in developing alternative energy. “Technology is very important, so we are developing more technologies to utilize waste heat. In addition, we also have several initiatives to optimize flows and emissions,” he added.
Furthermore, Dr. Dong Sub Kim explained that the energy transition is an optimal mixture optimization of various energies. For example, oil, gas, and diesel will depend on each country. The three main energy transition supporters are innovative technology and cooperation or collaboration.
Oki confirmed that collaboration from various parties is the key to the energy transition success in a country and even the world. Monti Rawanchaikul explained other supporting factors are investment and funding.
Pertamina is committed to targeting a reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) of 25 - 30 million tons by 2060. Following the government's policy which targets a 31.89% emission reduction with its own efforts or 43.20% with international assistance according to the Enhanced National Latest Determined Contribution (NDC) and Indonesia's net zero emission (NZE) aspirations in 2060 or sooner.**
