Jakarta, October 21, 2022 - Endless efforts in implementing Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects in all its business line has led PT Pertamina (Persero) to achieve improved ESG scores. Pertamina receives second position globally in the Oil and Gas category.
In October 2022, Pertamina received an ESG Risk Rating of 22.1 from the ESG Rating Sustainalytics Institute and was rated at the Medium risk level in experiencing a material financial impact from ESG factors. The ESG Risk Rating places Pertamina at second place globally in the Integrated Oil & Gas sub-industry by Sustainalytics. It is an increase from placing at number eight out of the same 54 companies in 2021.
In addition, in the Oil & Gas Producer category, Pertamina's ranking also increased sharply from 15th place last year to 7th out of 254 global companies.
"This increase in the global ESG ranking is am encouragement for us to increase the company's positive impact on the environment and society, while becoming a gift for Pertamina's 65th anniversary," said President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati.
According to Nicke, Pertamina's efforts throughout 2022 to decarbonize and produce environmentally friendly energy to address climate change positively impact the company's ESG performance. In addition to strengthening the work safety, corporate governance, community empowerment, and other aspects.
"I would like to thank all management and officers (Pertamina workers) who have worked hard in the carbon emission reduction program, where we have succeeded in reducing 29% of the carbon emissions produced by the Pertamina Group," Nicke said.
The ESG Risk Rating by Sustainalytics measures a company's exposure to ESG risk that is material to each industry and how well the company manages that risk, providing a quantitative measure that can be compared across all industries.
Sustainalytics assesses that Pertamina's activities in the exploration, production and processing of oil, gas and petrochemicals have high risks. However, Pertamina's risk management is seen as strong, especially related to Land Use & Biodiversity, Human Capital, and Occupational Health & Safety.**
