Jakarta, June 19, 2023 - The weekend at Lippo Mall Kemang in South Jakarta felt different than usual. The hangout spot for young people was filled with excitement as "Pertamina Energizing Your Action" banners adorned the area.
Young people, mostly from the Millennial and Gen Z generations, enthusiastically learned how to transform plastic waste into economically valuable products. Others were engrossed in learning how to make Beeswax Wraps, an alternative organic food wrapper that is biodegradable and non-toxic.
Meanwhile, the main stage was even more engaging. The young generation and mall visitors attentively watched a talk show featuring renowned figures such as Erick Thohir, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN); LaksmiDhewanthi, the Director General of Climate Change Control at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK); and Nicke Widyawati, the President Director of Pertamina. The participation of environmental activists and artists like PutriTanjung, Dian Sastrowardoyo, Cinta Laura, and Raditya Dika added to the allure of the talk show.
Pertamina's efforts aim to involve young people actively in environmental preservation. The event, held in conjunction with World Environment Day, also featured various exhibitions, photographs, and art installations to help visitors understand the dangers of electronic waste, climate changethreats, the loss of biodiversity, and the importance of adopting renewable energy sources.
"As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina strives to educate and inspire the younger generation to play an active role in creating a sustainable environment through engaging events. Pertamina has collaborated with various communities that share the same commitment to environmental preservation," explained Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication.
For instance, in the "DIY (Do It Yourself) Plastic Waste Upcycling" workshop, Pertamina partnered with the PlastikKembali community. Founded in 2019 in Selong Belanak, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, this community aims to address the excessive plastic waste issue, damaging the land and sea, by transforming it into valuable artistic and traditional crafts.
At the same time, Pertamina invited visitors to familiarize themselves with the Pakai Molis movement, which encourages the electric motorcycles or cars use to reduce emissions and save energy.
Minister of SOE Visits the Energizing Sustainable Community Booth
These environmental preservation activities were complemented by the energizing sustainable community booth, which introduced Pertamina's flagship programs under the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL). The booth was strategically located, allowing visitors to learn about the Energetic Independent Village, Pertamina Forest, Our Waste, and Fauna Conservation initiatives, as well as participate in games to win eco-friendly wooden cups provided by Pertamina's partner.
The uniqueness of this booth also captured the interest of Minister of SOE Erick Thohir, Director General of Climate Change Control at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Laksmi Dhewanthi, the President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati, with the Pertamina Holding and SubholdingDirectors, who enthusiastically visited the booth locations.
Fadjar appreciates the support of various parties who actively contributed to the success of the Pertamina Energizing Your Action event, ensuring the enthusiasm of visitors continued throughout the day and into the evening.
"The Energizing Sustainable Community booth is designed to attract attention so that the public can better understand Pertamina's efforts in preserving the environment," Fadjar explained.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement.
