December 25, 2023 - Regarding fuel supply in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency, Pertamina assures fuel availability and tightens supervision over fuel transactions at all petrol stations in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency.
Considering the increased fuel consumption in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency over the past few days due to the concentration of homecoming travel and tourist destinations, Pertamina is working to increase stock by adding fuel delivery fleets to petrol stations and preparing reserve Tanker Trucks or Mobile Stations that can fulfill the communities’ needs stationed at congestion-prone points.
Currently, the situation is gradually improving, with no longer vehicle queues visible at previously crowded petrol stations in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency. Pertamin, has been building up stock over the past few days by adding tanker truck fleets to secure fuel supplies at petrol stations until the new year, ensuring safe and smooth travel for the public.
Previously, there were observed crowds at several petrol stations. However, this does not mean there was a lack of fuel supplies; all petrol stations in North Toraja Regency and TanaToraja Regency have sufficient stock. Presently, the stock of Gasoil fuels such as Solar and Dexlite amounts to 100 kiloliters, and Gasoline fuels such as Pertalite and Pertamaxamount to 193 kiloliters. Data shows that the average consumption in December is 98% for Gasoline and 110% for Gasoil, indicating an increase from the previous year's consumption. This increase is due to the Christmas and New Year celebrations in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency.
There is also an increase in the demand for subsidized diesel due to the rice planting season, wherein farmers need diesel to operate tractors. Thus, Pertamina is intensively coordinating with the Department of Agriculture in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency to regulate recommendation letters suspected to be misused by irresponsible individuals.
The government, with Pertamina, is making efforts to regulate quotas to ensure sufficiency until the end of the year. As it is known, the subsidized fuel quota is proposed by the local government to the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), which then undergoes discussions at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, followed by presentation to the Ministry of Finance, and the quota determination is decided by the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission 7 & Budget Committee (Banggar), the final decision of which is conveyed to BPH Migas.
The public does not need to make excessive purchases because fuel stocks at petrol stations are sufficient. Pertamina distributes fuel according to the quota provided by the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas). Pertamina guarantees the stocks' safety and availability in North Toraja Regency and Tana Toraja Regency.
For information, subsidized diesel purchases using QR codes have been in operation since March 2023, and all petrol stations have implemented it. Thus, the implementation of QR codes will facilitate eligible users to obtain subsidized diesel.
Based on the Decree of the Head of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia No.04/P3JBT/BPH MIGAS/KOM/2020 concerning the Control of Distribution of Certain Types of Fuels, subsidized fuel purchase is specifically designated for vehicle owners who already possess a QR code, with a daily purchase limit of 60 liters for private 4-wheel vehicles, 80 liters for public transportation or 4-wheel goods carriers, and 200 liters for 6-wheel goods carriers.
Subsidized fuel is a right for less privileged communities to access energy at affordable prices. Therefore, any misuse or deviation from the intended use of subsidized fuel is considered a criminal act and the perpetrators will face law enforcement.
Pertamina will also impose strict sanctions on petrol stations proven to violate company operating standards. Sanctions range from warning letters, suspension of diesel delivery, and even termination of business relationships.
