Balikpapan, April 4, 2024 - Pertamina is currently focusing on completing the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) in Balikpapan, where the project has reached a new milestone, namely the Turn Around (TA) Revamp program, targeted to be completed by early May 2024. President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati conveyed this during a visit to the RDMP project in Balikpapan on Tuesday (02/04).
The TA Revamp program aims to integrate existing refinery units with the new refinery units resulting from the RDMP project implementation. The RDMP project completion in Balikpapan will increase the production capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery by 100 thousand barrels per day, meaning that the production capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery will increase to 360 thousand barrels per day from the initial capacity of 260 thousand barrels per day.
"We all pray and fully support the revamping process, which is an important milestone of this RDMP project to increase capacity to proceed smoothly," said Nicke.
Furthermore, Nicke stated that constructing a project of this magnitude and complexity is no small feat. However, through PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional and all involved teams, Pertamina has proven that with commitment and strong cooperation, they can overcome the challenges that come their way.
"We are committed to completing this project because it has been eagerly awaited by the entire Indonesian community. This project will provide significant added value to the Indonesian economy. Pertamina is proud to have such a large project," Nicke added.
Once the RDMP in Balikpapan is completed, it will become the largest oil refinery in Indonesia. This is because the capacity of the Balikpapan Refinery will surpass that of the Cilacap Refinery, which currently holds the largest capacity.
Currently, the Cilacap Refinery processes 345 thousand barrels of oil per day (bpd). Meanwhile, the Balikpapan Refinery could process up to 360 thousand bpd of crude oil. In addition to increasing oil processing capacity, there will also be an additional production of petrochemical products of up to 225 thousand tons per year.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.
