Jakarta, October 26, 2023 - Amidst the extended dry season, access to clean water for the community has become one of the prime issues, in line with the significance of water for maintaining health, sanitation, and basic needs. Recognizing this, PT Pertamina (Persero) has initiated 77 clean water access programs, reaching more than 11 thousand households across Indonesia.
These clean water programs are part of Pertamina's Environmental and Social Responsibility (TJSL). They also support the government's target in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) to achieve 90% access to proper sanitation, 100% access to clean drinking water, and 15% access to safe drinking water by 2024.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina's efforts to support clean water access aim to empower communities economically, educationally, environmentally, and in terms of health. "The TJSL program focuses on the environment, economy, and health sectors. Clean water as a basic necessity is an aspect needed by all three main sectors of TJSL," he explained.
One of the clean water programs flows in the Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), in the Tendambepa Village, Nangapanda District, and the Wolosoko Village, Wolowaru District.
Pertamina has constructed reservoir tanks and pipelines to channel water from the water source to the reservoir. The installation distance from the water source to the reservoir is approximately seven kilometers. Using a hydraulic system, clean water can reach the residential areas.
Fransiskus Mari Lado, a resident of Tendambepa Village, expressed gratitude for this assistance. "We are very grateful for Pertamina's clean water supply program because it greatly helps and facilitates our access to clean water. It has been very helpful for us during difficult times," he said.
Similarly, Djafar H. Achmad, the Regent of Ende, expressed his gratitude to Pertamina for the TJSL program implementation. He encourages the community to play a role in the facilities’ sustainability that has been built by applying the knowledge gained through the training provided.
This clean water access improvement program aligns with the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) principles for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 - Clean Water.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
