Jakarta, April 4, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero) presented the company's efforts to improve refinery reliability in accordance with international standards at a Hearing Meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission VII today (04/04). The President Director of Pertamina, accompanied by the Board of Directors and the President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, stated that since the Balongan incident in 2021, various improvements have been made at all Pertamina refineries.
From the perspective of Operational Availability, one of the parameters for monitoring refinery reliability, Pertamina uses Solomon as an international refinery benchmark. In consolidation in 2022, the Operational Availability benchmark results according to the Solomon standard at all Pertamina refineries reached a score of 96%, which is above the Global Refinery average.
Taufik Aditiyawarman, President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), explained that operational availability continues to be encouraged to increase refinery production.
"The operational availability of the refinery is continuously improved each year through the Overhaul, Turn Around, and Rejuvenation programs. Refinery reliability improvements, including material and equipment rejuvenation, are carried out gradually based on risk," said Taufik.
Furthermore, Taufik explained that KPI, has made a long-term plan to maintain and improve refinery reliability until 2026, with a total estimated cost of USD 2 billion.
Nicke Widyawati, President Director of Pertamina, also stated that continuous improvement is crucial to maintain refinery production.
After the Balongan incident in 2021, Pertamina underwent an audit by an international auditor using the International Sustainability Rating System (ISRS) Level 9 used by global practices.
Nicke explained that based on the recommendations from the audit, Pertamina has carried out several priority activities to prevent the largest potential risks at the refinery.
"We will continue to learn from the cases and other international refineries. Improvements are constantly being made, given the age of Pertamina refineries. Operational availability is one of the main refinery performance indicators because Pertamina aims to reduce imports," said Nicke.
All of these efforts are made by Pertamina to ensure refinery production stability, which will undoubtedly support Pertamina's efforts in maintaining national energy resilience.
