Yogyakarta, May 12, 2023 - To drive energy transition, PT Pertamina (Persero) provides assistance of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) installation at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) rooftop with a total capacity of 326.25 kWp. The assistance was symbolically inaugurated on Thursday (May 11).
The inauguration was conducted by the Director of Human Resources & Business Support of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), the President Director of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, the VP of Stakeholder Relations & Management of Pertamina, and the CSR Manager of Pertamina, with the Vice-Rector for Planning, Assets, and Information Systems of UGM.
In his speech, the Director of Human Resources and Business Support of Pertamina NRE, Said Reza Pahlevy, expressed that the rooftop PLTS assistance provided to UGM is Pertamina’s concrete action to accelerate the energy transition. This action is carried out within the business context and as part of their social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) activities. This opportunity is given to the education sector, including UGM.
"As an energy company, Pertamina is committed to accelerating the energy transition. Pertamina promotes this goal through its TJSL program, including the PLTS assistance to UGM," said Said.
The construction of the rooftop PLTS at UGM has gone through various stages and finally started operating on August 25, 2023. Out of the total 326.25 kWp, the PLTS are installed at seven rooftop points of UGM's buildings, namely the Faculty of Humanities (71.25 kWp), Faculty of Law (39.75 kWp), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences BA (82.5 kWp), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences BC (45 kWp), Faculty of Forestry JBIC (20.25 kWp), Faculty of Forestry IFFLC (40.5 kWp), and Faculty of Geography (27 kWp).
With the installed capacity, the carbon emissions that can be reduced in approximately one year amount to 309.7 tons of CO2 equivalent or equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 14,747 mature trees. In 2022, the electricity production from the rooftop PLTS reached 169,689 kWh.
Arief Setiawan Budi, the Vice-Rector for Planning, Assets, and Information Systems of UGM, expressed his appreciation for the assistance provided by Pertamina, which has contributed to the clean energy fulfillment in the UGM environment during the inauguration event.
"Alhamdulillah, as of September 2022, with Pertamina, UGM has a 326 kWp PLTS. This is our initial step in contributing to clean energy on campus," said Arief.
Arief added that developing PLTS within the campus should continue to be done, considering the significant electricity consumption of UGM's buildings. It is recorded that the annual electricity consumption at UGM reached 25.63 GWh or an average of 2.1 GWh per month. Although it contributes only 1%, the PLTS assistance from Pertamina has become an initial step towards clean energy in the campus environment.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, stated that the efforts to accelerate energy transition driven by Pertamina are aligned with the Net Zero Emission (NZE) 2060 target.
"Pertamina has a concrete strategy to support the NZE 2060 aspiration, which includes decarbonizing its business and developing greener ventures. All of Pertamina's business lines will move together towards this goal, including the TJSL program," expressed Fadjar.
Pertamina's support through the TJSL program in the environmental field, utilizing renewable energy in the education sector, aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 7, Clean and Affordable Energy, and point 13, Climate Action. It also demonstrates a strong commitment to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in every aspect of its business and operations.**
