January 3, 2023 - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) and PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) signed a Cooperation Agreement regarding Solar Power Plant (PLTS) utilization at refineries throughout Indonesia. The signing took place at Mason Pine, Padalarang, on Friday (30/12).
The signing was carried out by the Chief Executive Officer of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro, and the President Director of KPI, Taufik Aditiyawarman. This step is part of Pertamina's and its Sub Holdings' commitment to be active and become a driving force in new and renewable energy development in Indonesia.
There are four refinery areas in the PLTS phase 2 refinery area construction. Namely, the Dumai Refinery, the Plaju Refinery, the Cilacap Refinery, and the Balongan Refinery. With a total installed capacity of 6.45 MWp and an estimated emission reduction of 7.3 tons of CO2e per year, this collaboration is a real and strategic step for Pertamina in carrying out its duties as the motor of the energy transition in Indonesia.
The CEO of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro, said that the refinery is the heart of Indonesia's energy because the refinery is a place to process crude oil to become the fuel that will be marketed later. This collaboration has a 25 years duration. Pertamina NRE will ensure the installed PLTS reliability to operate and supply electricity for refinery operations for 25 years smoothly and contribute in reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy efficiency in its operations.
“Many challenges must be faced in developing a reliable and efficient PLTS. However, we are optimistic that we will be able to manage and guarantee the PLTS reliability that we install to support refinery operations," said Dannif.
On the same occasion, the President Director of KPI, Taufik Adityawarman, said he fully supports this collaboration. KPI welcomes the plan to utilize environmentally friendly energy, which follows Pertamina's spirit in supporting Net Zero Emission 2060 and KPI's ESG rating plan in 2023. “Hopefully, this collaboration can become a forum for increasing knowledge to improve refinery operational reliability. And also a means of implementing future energy that is more efficient and environmentally friendly," stated Taufik.
Previously, in phase 1, Pertamina NRE had built PLTS in the Dumai Refinery area with a capacity of 2 MWp and the Cilacap Refinery area with a capacity of 1.34 MWp. In total, PLTS capacity in the Pertamina refinery area stages 1 and 2 reaches approximately 10MWp.
This collaboration is an important milestone in realizing Pertamina's mission to develop new renewable energy. It also follows the three strategic pillars designed by Pertamina through the Pertamina NRE Sub Holding. Namely, low-carbon solutions, new and renewable energy development, and future energy business development.
The initiatives in the new and renewable energy development and decarbonization carried out by Pertamina NRE are part of the environment, social, and governance (ESG) implementation as well as support for the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the 13th goal, namely, tackling climate change. Apart from PLTS, Pertamina NRE collaborates with many parties to develop new, renewable energy and its derivatives, such as geothermal, biomass, green hydrogen, and continues to develop the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.**
