Jakarta, September 2, 2022 – Pertamina Power Indonesia (Pertamina NRE) and Pondera Development BV (Pondera) signed a joint study agreement (JSA) on the Integrated Offshore Wind Energy & Green Hydrogen Production Facility development on Tuesday (30/8) in Nusa Dua, Bali.
The signing was carried out by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pertamina NRE, Dannif Danusaputro, and Eric Arends as Vice Chairman of Pondera Group, and witnessed by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, as well as President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati. The agreement is a follow-up to the signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) by both parties on April 21, 2022.
In his speech, Arifin said he was pleased with the partnerships and collaborations built upon the B20 international summit. He added that low-carbon technology application challenges should be dealt with by both developed and developing countries.
On the same occasion, Nicke also said, “The collaboration between Pertamina NRE and Pondera is very strategic considering that it is not only creating value for both companies but also for Indonesia to unleash wind energy potential that is not yet utilized enough. Moreover, we will also study the green hydrogen production facility development in the project. This means that this project has a huge potential for renewable energy development in Indonesia.”
“Delivering the energy transition is not a simple task. It needs collaborations with experienced partners. Through this cooperation, we expect technology transfer, besides commercial benefits for both parties,” said Dannif.
As a global consultant and developer of renewable energy, Pondera has experience in developing on- and offshore wind projects in Europe and Asia. The Dutch-based company’s experience includes conducting wind measurements, feasibility studies, wind modeling, wind farm engineering, and construction management. To date, Pondera has been involved in more than 12 GW of wind energy projects worldwide.
“Indonesia has an ambitious target for renewable energy development, and we recognize Pertamina’s key role in achieving the target. To reach the target, all renewable energy sources shall be utilized, including the promising onshore and offshore wind energy. Developing a large-scale offshore wind farm with green hydrogen as the energy carrier requires a careful and comprehensive economic feasibility study, while taking local conditions into account. We are delighted and looking forward to cooperating with Pertamina NRE in this project,” said Eric.
Indonesia has a large wind energy potential. Based on a study by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM), several locations in Indonesia have the potential for wind power plant development. Namely, the southern coast of Java, South Sulawesi, Maluku, and East Nusa Tenggara, with average wind speeds of 8 m/s in June, July, and August.
Currently, wind power plants in operation in Indonesia include a 75 MW wind farm in Sidrap and a 60 MW wind farm in Jeneponto. Both plants are located in South Sulawesi Province. Based on the National Energy Mix (BEN), wind power plants are targeted to reach 255 MW by 2025. With this strategic partnership initiative, Pertamina NRE can contribute to the Indonesian Government's National Energy Mix target achievement.
Pertamina NRE has a strong commitment to implement environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects in its business activities, as well as to support the national net zero emission achievement in 2060.**
