Bali, September 11, 2024 – Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Sojitz Indonesia have entered a strategic partnership to support energy transition and reduce carbon emissions using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) products, specifically Pertamina Renewable Diesel.
The collaboration with PT Sojitz in utilizing HVO is part of Pertamina Patra Niaga's commitment to becoming an energy solution provider and a key partner in decarbonization in the industrial sector stated through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Director of Central Marketing and Commerce of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Maya Kusmaya, and the CEO of PT Sojitz Indonesia, Seiji Itagaki, in Bali on Tuesday (9/10).
"Pertamina Patra Niaga is focused on providing products and the impact generated from every energy solution we offer. This collaboration is a concrete effort to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for the industry and society," Maya Kusmaya said.
Maya Kusmaya added that the HVO produced at the Green Refinery Cilacap has been internationally recognized through the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) and has already been delivered to PT Sojitz for testing on diesel generators at PT MHI Engine System.
"HVO has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 85% and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%, making it an environmentally friendly energy solution that supports the achievement of Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Additionally, HVO can be used directly in diesel engines without modification, thus expanding its positive environmental impact and supporting the clean energy transition, especially in the industrial sector," said Maya Kusmaya.
In addition to HVO, Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Sojitz Indonesia are also exploring various renewable energy development potentials, including the supply of raw materials such as UCO (Used Cooking Oil) and POME (Palm Oil Mill Effluent), as well as carbon credits.
At the same event, the CEO of PT Sojitz Indonesia, Seiji Itagaki, stated that this collaboration marks a significant milestone in supporting the sustainable business goals of both companies and providing new environmentally friendly energy solutions in the future.
"Sojitz Indonesia is committed to significantly contributing to sustainable business practices. The collaboration with Pertamina Patra Niaga is an important step towards achieving carbon emission reductions in Indonesia," Itagaki explained.
Meanwhile, the National Capacity and Quality Assurance of SKK Migas, Rudi Kurniawan, also appreciated the collaboration between Pertamina Patra Niaga and PT Sojitz Indonesia.
Rudi added that the trial of HVO products was also successfully conducted at one of the Pertamina EP Field Cepu Contractor of Cooperation Contract (KKKS) as part of promoting domestic products and is expected to be implemented in various upstream oil and gas sectors in the future.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, said that Pertamina will continue to innovate in creating environmentally friendly flagship products.
"Pertamina's flagship products are designed to meet domestic and international needs while accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia," said Fadjar.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
