The Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina (Persero), Brahmantya S. Poerwadi, the Director General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Dr. Ir. Mahfudz, M.P., and the Deputy Regent of Karangasem, Dr. I Wayan Arth, synergized to plant trees in Besakih Village, at the foot of Mount Agung, Bali, on Monday (09/09/2024).

Pertamina Re-Greens Besakih Village: Planted 200 Trees at the Foot of Mount Agung

Karangasem, September 9, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) has planted of 200 trees in Besakih Village at the foot of Mount Agung, Bali. This initiative reflects Pertamina's commitment to environmental preservation while empowering the community through the social forestry program.

Besakih Village, renowned for its natural beauty, is situated at the base of Mount Agung. The village is not only rich in biodiversity but also holds strong cultural and spiritual values. Through this tree-planting program, Pertamina aims to conserve nature while empowering the local community.

"This activity encourages the community to actively plant trees, which will benefit themselves, the surrounding society, and the government. Collaboration with Pertamina helps enhance the community's capacity in building the economy and preserving forests," said Dr. Ir. Mahfudz, M.P., Director General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

Deputy Regent of Karangasem, Dr. I Wayan Arth, added that Pertamina has shown tremendous concern for environmental preservation. This program must not stop here but should be continued and monitored. Trees are vital for life, serving as the lungs of the earth.

The event was also attended by the Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina (Persero), Brahmantya S. Poerwadi. Brahmantya expressed his appreciation for the collaboration. "Pertamina is committed to supporting a green ecosystem based on local wisdom in Besakih Village. We hope this effort will provide significant benefits to the local community, especially the social forestry business groups," he said.

Similarly, I Nyoman Artana, Chair of LPHD Mahawana Basuki, emphasized the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the village's forest. “We are planting Pinang trees used in traditional ceremonies, as well as fibers for repairing the roof of Besakih Temple. This not only conserves the forest but also preserves local cultural values,” he stated.

This tree-planting program is one of Pertamina's corporate social responsibility activities. Through the synergy between Pertamina, KLHK, and the community, it is hoped that Besakih Village will be able to maintain its natural conservation and improve the welfare of its people through social forestry.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, added that Besakih Village has become a successful example of integrating environmental conservation with community-based economic development. "We hope that Pertamina's role in sustaining the environment and the community will energize economic growth," Fadjar concluded.
