Jakarta, May 16, 2023 - PT Pertamina (Persero) reaffirms its commitment to realizing and fully supporting the Government's efforts to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060 while ensuring national energy availability.
"As an energy company, we support the government to achieve Net Zero Emissions in 2060, but Pertamina's main priority is still ensuring energy availability and energy security," said the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, in Jakarta (15/5/2023).
According to Nicke, in the National Energy General Plan, up to 2060, the oil and gas portion in the national energy mix will continue to decrease but is still needed.
"Because the majority of energy needs for transportation and industry are still from fossil energy, we will continue to support the government to increase oil and gas production, where oil is targeted to increase to 1 million barrels per day and gas to increase by 12 BSCFD," she said.
However, to reach NZE, Pertamina changed its business to become Green Operation. It is done using ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) parameters.
Furthermore, Nicke explained that with this ESG concept, three scopes must be done to reduce carbon. The first is to reduce inefficient equipment by rejuvenating it to save more raw materials. Furthermore, the exhaust gas energy wasted in the air and causes pollution is now processed into energy.
Through the initiatives, until 2022, Pertamina Group has reduced 31% of carbon emissions in its operations, from upstream to downstream.
"We have not talked about the third scope, namely final products, such as Biodiesel, the numbers will be bigger. It means Pertamina continues to maintain energy availability but is also committed to reducing carbon emissions through various efforts," Nicke said.**
