Jakarta, December 19, 2023 - PT PGN Tbk and PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk – SURGE (WIFI.JK) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Collaboration for the Gas Pipeline Networks Development and Provision of ICT Services for Household and Commercial Sectors. The signing was conducted by the Director of Strategy and Business Development of PGN, Rosa Permata Sari, and President Director of SURGE, Yune Marketatmo.
This collaboration target 2.5 million households on Java Island by providing internet infrastructure through PGN. PGN will offer bundled services of gas and internet networks at an affordable price. The partnership aims to expedite the penetration and distribution of gas and internet networks more evenly.
By 2023, there have been 835 thousand household gas network connections, and the Government has set a target of 2.5 million household gas network developments by 2024. One of the efforts involves Surge in providing incentives to accelerate household gas network development, adding value to households through affordable internet services.
"This collaboration is part of PGN's affordable and modern solution in utilizing natural gas as an everyday energy source. GasKita, the natural gas supplied to customer homes 24/7, will be complemented with additional internet services beneficial for the customers," stated Rosa Permata Sari, Director of Strategy and Business Development of PGN, (18/12/23).
The bundling package of Jargas and the internet is also expected to increase the market share of natural gas, particularly among households. Through Jargas, PGN aims for wider adoption of natural gas as a clean energy source. "The addition of internet packages is expected to further stimulate public interest in transitioning to using natural gas," Rosa added.
"We warmly welcome the collaboration between PGN and SURGE, where we provide ICT infrastructure for PGN to develop bundled services of gas and affordable internet for all segments of society. We continue to support the Government's efforts in accelerating the provision of household gas networks reaching 2.5 million households and providing high added value through improved and affordable connectivity, contributing to Indonesia's digital economic growth," stated the President Director of SURGE, Yune Marketatmo.
The collaboration between PGN and SURGE will be crucial in supporting the Government in promoting natural gas utilization through Jargas domestically. The benefits of the Jargas program can help reduce LPG imports by 83.5 million kg per year and save the government energy subsidies amounting to IDR 474 billion per year based on the existing Jargas customers. The benefits of reducing LPG imports and energy subsidies will increase with the growing number of household connections.
