Pekanbaru, January 20, 2023 - PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) continues to increase oil production optimization in the Rokan Working Area (WK) with a target of 592 wells in 2023. PHR started drilling activities with a very satisfying results in early 2023.
In the first two weeks, PHR managed to find potential oil deposits and produce thousands barrels of new oil reserves in the Rokan Working Area. There are four mainstay wells that are currently being the focus because they have sizable oil reserves, namely in the Minas, Petani, Benar, and Bekasap fields which produce between 1,000 and 1,400 barrels per day. These wells automatically become a priority in drilling activities because they are above the initial target average of hundreds of barrels per well.
The four wells which became the 'primadonna' at the beginning of this year were located around the existing fields. However, thanks to the foresight and aggressive surveys, PHR found potential oil in layers that had not previously been identified.
"With a massive and aggressive work pattern, PHR provides the flexibility to apply out-of-the-box methods to obtain the best results from each field. PHR's success at the beginning of this year was inseparable from the technology application, as well as the PHR engineers’ foresight and creativity in observing the potential for oil reserves in the Rokan Work Area,” said the President Director of PHR, Jaffee A Suardin.
The Minas field found new reserves using deep GGRP review by targeting areas that have not been penetrated by existing wells in the vicinity. Similarly, in the Farmer’s Field by further studying reservoir targets in the sand bund layers that have not been massively exploited before.
Not only accelerating drilling in large fields, but PHR also re-evaluates seismic data and wells in small fields that were previously abandoned but still have excellent oil potential.
“The achievements earlier this year were inseparable from the collaboration and support from all stakeholders who have not limited PHR in making efforts to increase production through massive and aggressive exploration and exploitation programs. We really appreciate the cooperation and support in obtaining various permits such as IPPKH, AMDAL, and others which assist PHR in facilitating drilling activities,” Jaffee continued.
Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, Head of SKK Migas Representative for Sumbagut, also accepted the discovery of these oil reserves. Through the new discoveries, PHR will support the Government's efforts to achieve one million barrels per day in 2030. This is a great start, and SKK Migas hopes that PHR will continue to be consistent and seek to explore the potential in the Rokan WK as much as possible.
“We continue to encourage PSC Contractors in Riau Province, especially Pertamina Hulu Rokan, to be massive and aggressive to increase production from the Rokan Work Area while still prioritizing HSSE aspects," Rikky Rahmat Firdaus continued.**
