Jakarta, June 23, 2023 – Pertamina, through the Research & Technology Innovation (RTI) function, has successfully created up to USD 14.5 million value or approximately IDR 217 billion from commercialized innovative products.
Pertamina has also achieved USD 4.6 million in cost optimization through funding grants from collaborations with both domestic and international partners.
It was revealed at the RTI Collaboration Day event at the Grha Pertamina Ballroom on Thursday, June 22, 2023. RTI Collaboration Day is an event introducing several RTI research outcomes that have successfully developed market-ready products and open opportunities for collaboration and research cooperation towards commercialization.
Nicke Widyawati, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), explained that one of the biggest challenges faced by Pertamina in the transition era is balancing Energy Security, Energy Sustainability, and Energy Affordability. These three conditions require green business implementation while maintaining energy resilience and providing affordable energy to the public.
"This certainly poses a challenge, and RTI has fulfilled its function in conducting research and innovation, including various programs to reduce carbon emissions from our internal operations," said Nicke.
According to her, Pertamina is committed to continuous innovation. It is evident from the 49 patents acquisition. Moreover, there are around 200 innovative products being developed to support energy resilience.
"This also follows the government's downstream program. Through this innovation, Pertamina can engage in crude-to-chemical downstream, which is expected to reduce petrochemical products imports and contribute to the national trade balance," added Nicke.
At Pertamina, the RTI function plays a role in innovation, sustainability management, future business development, and new business portfolio creation and value creation.
During the event, Pertamina also launched nine innovative products that have been utilized and marketed by the Pertamina Group, which are:
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), state-owned enterprises, private companies, universities, research institutions, funding agencies, domestic and international partners, as well as regulators were present at the event.
