Supporting Government Efforts to Intensify Exploration Activities, Elnusa Conducts Seismic Activities from Rokan to Seram

Jakarta, August 1, 2024 – PT Elnusa Tbk (Elnusa) continues to support the government in intensifying oil and gas exploration activities. One of these efforts includes providing and conducting seismic activities for numerous oil and gas exploration projects across Indonesia in 2024, from Rokan Hilir, Karawang, and Bone to East Seram.

Since 1986, Elnusa has worked on various seismic activities for oil and gas exploration, including Land Seismic Surveys, Shallow Water and Transition Zone Seismic Surveys, Marine Seismic Surveys, and Marine Geophysical & Geotechnical Surveys.

“Elnusa has extensive experience in conducting seismic surveys. Not only in Indonesia, but we have also expanded to various countries such as Brunei, Myanmar, Vietnam, and India, which further strengthens Elnusa's portfolio and capabilities in seismic survey work,” said Bachtiar Soeria Atmadja, President Director of Elnusa.

Bachtiar stated that for 2024, Elnusa will remain active in supporting seismic activities in various Oil and Gas Working Areas (WK) across Indonesia. There are several 3D seismic projects by Elnusa in 202,4 which include the 3D land seismic activities in Balam Southeast, Rokan Hilir, Riau; 3D seismic data acquisition in Kepuh, Karawang, West Java; and 3D Offshore Bone seismic survey in Bone and Wajo districts, South Sulawesi, and Southeast (SE) Seram in the waters of East Seram Regency, Maluku.

“Elnusa’s seismic activities for 2024 are quite diverse, including both onshore and offshore 3D seismic activities. The locations are widespread, ranging from Sumatra and Java to the South Sulawesi and Maluku waters. It demonstrates Elnusa’s robust competence in handling seismic activities across various terrains and regions,” Bachtiar emphasized.

For the 3D land seismic activities in Balam Southeast, the work started in 2023 and was completed on April 4, 2024. The 3D seismic activities covered 16,742 shot points over 303 km² in three sub-districts and 12 villages in Rokan Hilir Regency without any accidents, achieving 1,453,520 safe man-hours.

In Karawang, Elnusa also completed the 3D seismic data acquisition for PT Pertamina EP Zone 7 on March 23, 2024, six months ahead of the target. Elnusa completed the 3D seismic data acquisition with 25,356 shot points over 501 km², covering 19 sub-districts and 131 villages in Karawang Regency, with 1,759,900 safe man-hours.

Moving to eastern Indonesia, at the end of June 2024, Elnusa completed the 3D Offshore Bone and SE Seram seismic surveys. These seismic surveys, part of the PHE Jambi Merang Firm Commitment (KKP) in open areas, used the Seismic Vessel HYSY 760 and four support vessels. The seismic surveys employed the 3D Marine Streamer Broadband acquisition method with 4x8,500 meter marine streamers.

The 3D seismic survey in Bone waters covered an area of 821 km² and was completed in 26 days, 11 days ahead of the target. Meanwhile, the 3D SE Seram survey in the waters of East Seram Regency, covering 700 km², was completed in 59 days, 15 days ahead of the target.

“These 3D seismic survey projects in Bone and SE Seram are important for opening new areas for oil and gas exploration in eastern Indonesia, which still holds great potential. Elnusa is very proud to be part of the effort to discover potential oil and gas resources,” he said.

Bachtiar added that Elnusa's involvement in each seismic activity always considers Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects according to applicable standards. “HSSE matters remain our top priority, ensuring that the Total Solution in seismic services offered by Elnusa can continuously support the search and discovery of new oil and gas reserves to strengthen national energy resilience,” concluded Bachtiar.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina is mandated to maintain national energy security. Thus, various efforts to increase oil and gas production continue to be made. One of these efforts is Elnusa's exploration to map and discover oil and gas reserves. “As an energy company, Pertamina will continue to strive to increase oil and gas production while leading the energy transition to meet future energy needs," explained Fadjar.
