Supporting the Ciliwung Festival, the Pertamina Ciliwung Blue Gateway to Develop River Ecosystem

Depok, June 16, 2024 - PT Pertamina (Persero) is participating in environmental conservation through the Gerakan Membangun Bersih Indah Lestari Rahayu Ciliwung (Gerbang Biru Ciliwung) program, which is part of the Ciliwung Festival 2024, officially opened on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Omah Maja, Depok, West Java.

The Ciliwung Festival involves various stakeholders through a Pentahelix scheme, which includes five parties: academics, business actors, government, community and NGOs, and the media.

The Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, hopes this Pentahelix collaboration continues to be maintained to implement environmental programs more widely.

"Today is a follow-up to the 10th World Water Forum 2024 Ministerial Declaration on Water For Shared Prosperity. One of the agreed commitments is to promote the conservation, protection, and sustainability of water resources, including groundwater, as essential elements for human activities and ecosystems, especially surface water like rivers, through sustainable water management development. Thank you, Pertamina and all community members. Today’s activities are very encouraging," said Nurbaya in her speech.

The Depok Mayor, Mohammad Idris, added that collaboration with various sectors is crucial. In the future, besides the Ciliwung River, many other rivers can be developed in the area. "One of them is the Cisadane River, a major river after Ciliwung that can be developed in Depok," Idris said.

On this occasion, the President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, stated that Ciliwung could become a river that positively impacts the community. It can provide social, environmental, economic, and educational benefits.

"Pertamina is presenting the Gerbang Biru Ciliwung program, which has three main pillars: Clean Gateway, Beautiful Gateway, and Prosperous Gateway. We are implementing it with the Pentahelix concept (collaboration with five parties), which will have an extraordinary impact," Nicke said.

The Gerbang Biru Ciliwung program development focuses on community-led management towards sustainable eco-riparianism. Ecoriparian is a concept that restores the river's natural function to flow water continuously.

"We hope these programs run smoothly, and we seek your support and prayers to realize a prosperous society from its surrounding environment, particularly through the presence of the Ciliwung River,” Nicke added.

Besides the Gerbang Biru Ciliwung, Pertamina also provided 200 trees and seven rubber boats to be utilized on the Ciliwung River.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina's attention to environmental conservation aligns with its goal as a sustainable, environmentally friendly company. Through the Gerbang Biru Ciliwung, Pertamina aims to contribute to achieving National Development Goals (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs) No. 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), No. 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and No. 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
