August 23, 2023 - During his official visit to Tanzania, President Joko Widodo stated his intention to increase investment value in Tanzania's energy sector through the state-owned enterprise Pertamina. It was conveyed during a joint press statement with the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu, in Dar Es Salaam on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
"Indonesia aims to elevate investments in Tanzania, including the Mnazi Bay Gas Block’s management by the Indonesian state-owned enterprise and natural gas processing into chemicals and fertilizers," explained the President.
The President assessed that investment in this sector is highly strategic and can strengthen cooperation between developing nations.
"Cooperation in investment within this sector is highly strategic and will reinforce collaboration between developing nations," he emphasized.
Previously, in the presence of President Joko Widodo and President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati, and the Managing Director of TPDC, Mussa Makame, signed a memorandum of understanding with Tanzania Petroleum Development Company (TPDC), a state-owned company from Tanzania.
This MoU marks the initiation of Pertamina's collaboration in Tanzania to enhance hydrocarbon exploration and the entire crude oil value chain. Both companies will also explore potential collaboration in oil and gas sector in Tanzania, including exploration, production, and gas pipeline projects.
"The strategic energy collaboration between TPDC and Pertamina is a milestone in enhancing the relationship between Tanzania and Indonesia, given that TPDC and Pertamina are state-owned enterprises fully owned by their respective governments," explained Nicke in Tanzania on Tuesday, August 22, local time.
Nicke further explained that through the MoU between TPDC and Pertamina, both state-owned enterprises have agreed to collaborate in the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil and gas industry. It includes downstream investment opportunities in CNG stations and Mini LNG supply. Additionally, there will be a capacity-building enhancement for TPDC employees to receive training or education in Indonesia.
