Jakarta, July 28, 2023 - Following the Participating Interest transfer from Shell to Pertamina Hulu Energi and Petronas, PT Pertamina (Persero), in collaboration with INPEX Corporation, is prepared to develop the business in the Abadi Field of Masela Block from upstream to downstream.
In the Masela Block development plan, Pertamina is partnering with INPEX, which includes activities such as LNG trading and transportation, provision of maritime services, gas-fired power plants, renewable energy, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage, Carbon Credit, pipeline construction, including underwater pipelines, Ammonia refinery development, and fulfilling local industries and communities’ needs.
Nicke Widyawati, President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), stated that as a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina is committed to ensuring Masela Block’s development contributes to the growth of Eastern Indonesia and supports national energy resilience through LNG provision.
"As an integrated energy company, Pertamina will involve all business lines to support the Masela Block development for the benefit of the local community and the national energy needs," said Nicke.
According to Nicke, LNG supply is crucial to strengthen the gas supply required in the energy transition era. In addition to LNG, the Abadi Field development in the Masela Block, adopting Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology, will also produce green energy such as Hydrogen and Ammonia.
"The LNG development project in the Abadi Field of Masela Block can support the Government's goal to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060," Nicke explained.
The Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero) stated that in the joint agreement with INPEX, Pertamina will also provide supporting facilities such as human resources, insurance, fuel and lubricants distribution, health facilities, and housing.
"Pertamina's subsidiaries outside the energy sector will be involved in the Masela Block development. This is Pertamina group's commitment to developing upstream fields to maintain national energy resilience," said Fadjar.
As known, the annual LNG production from this project is expected to reach 9.5 million tons per year, equivalent to over 10 percent of Japan's annual LNG imports. The Abadi Gas Field possesses world-class gas resources and abundant reserves, enabling efficient development.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines.**
