Cilamaya, Karawang, September 21, 2024 – To promote energy and economic independence within the community, Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (PNRE) has installed a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) near the Jawa-1 Gas and Steam Power Plant, located in Cilamaya Wetan District, Karawang. This program aims to support the mushroom cultivation process, a key product of the local community.
The symbolic handover of the off-grid solar power system, with a capacity of 2.2 kWp and 5 kWh battery storage, took place at the Cilamaya Wetan Village Office Hall, Karawang, on Friday (20/9).
“This initiative is part of the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) program, which focuses not only on economic independence through mushroom cultivation but also on environmentally friendly energy independence. The PLTS installation takes advantage of Cilamaya Wetan's abundant sunlight, which is sufficient to support the energy needed for mushroom cultivation. We hope this will be helpful and beneficial to the community,” said the Corporate Secretary of Pertamina NRE, Dicky Septriadi.
The Jawa-1 Gas and Steam Power Plant is managed by PT Jawa Satu Power, a part of the Pertamina NRE Group. Pertamina NRE is committed to providing added value to the communities around its operational areas, one of which is through corporate social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) programs like the Desa Energi Berdikari initiative.
The solar power system will be utilized in various crucial aspects of mushroom cultivation, including sterilization, water pump operation, and lighting at the cultivation site. With renewable energy utilization, the mushroom production process is expected to be more efficient and sustainable.
This solar power initiative could reduce carbon emissions by 3.120 tons of CO2-eq/year, following the government's commitment to achieving a clean energy transition and promoting renewable energy utilization in Indonesia.
The Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that Pertamina is engaging the community to adopt clean energy, as demonstrated by the solar power program in DEB Karawang. It serves as education on the importance of clean energy, providing economic benefits, and reducing emissions.
"With the community’s participation, it is hoped that all parties will gain a better understanding of the Net Zero Emission target, and this will receive full support from the public," said Fadjar.
The DEB program is one of the tangible examples of implementing environmentally friendly energy to improve community welfare and support the energy transition towards achieving the Net Zero Emission 2060 target.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
